As far as affordable lunch spots near the Plaza go, you can't miss here. It's nothing really fancy, but it's a good spot to grab a sandwich and/or some salad. They have really good prime rib, and since it's a part of the Hilton you can rest assured that they're going for broke in the customer satisfaction category. Also, did I mention affordable? In this neck of the woods it can be very expensive to eat, given the proximity to Santa Fe's largest tourist attraction (The Plaza). However, for $5 you can get a really good sandwich here, served in a nice environment. Yes, it's not as romantic and dreamy as eating right on the plaza, but when you save your cash you can stroll up the street and take in the sights with slightly more padded pockets.

This was a quaint, lovely spot. The food is spicy & the margaritas strong. Very reasonable prices & great service!

Over the last five years I've probably come by for lunch about 50 times! Okay, maybe that's a bit of an exaggeration, but not much. LOL! The staff is awesome, especially Diane! She's a sweetheart. Often times she will bring you a small dessert at no extra charge. The food is great. The prime rib sandwich is epic! I think I've had everything the menu has to offer, and my favorite lunch item is the "all you can eat soup". On most days you can choose from green chile stew or a green chile clam chowder (my personal favorite). However, if you happen to drop by on a special day, you'll be lucky enough to have the option of experiencing a true Santa Fe staple; a world-famous "Frito pie"! Chances are, if you're reading this, and you're actually at the restaurant, you may bump into me. Stop by and personally shake my hand for recommending this gem! If Diane's working: I give this place 4.5 stars, if not, 4 stars.

This is an old favorite restaurant/bar of ours that we accidentally discovered after walking the square and wanting to stop somewhere warm up and chill out. El Canon is right across the street from the El Dorado hotel and is a cool place to hang out and drink wine or hot chocolate and warm up by the fire. We enjoy the ambience of it and like to sit on the long couches by the fire. They have a menu, which we occasionally order a meal, but really prefer this place for drinks and appetizers, if we get food. The service is okay, sometimes slow, because there is only one bartender it seems. They also have a big screen tv I just noticed this year, for sports fans.

this was my first trip to Santa Fe and everywhere I went no one was open nor ready for lunch until I stumbled onto El Canon. When I walked in I was greeted immediately by the staff and made me feel at ease. They thought I was a local which I wasn't but yet still treated like one. There sandwiches and all you can eat salad bar was awesome! I truly enjoyed the Chef's soup special called Jerry's Green Chile Soup which I asked one of the servers it's ingredients but sad to say she didn't know and that Chef Jerry was out for that day. Well Chef Jeffy should you be reading this, I would love to know your recipe please =)
